Presentation2 part 2

Second part of presentations were today. Some people were sick (or hungover) so they couldn’t present, thus George had alot of Q &A time in which he was grilled over his idea. Poor guy. Anyways onwards to the recaps.

Mobisnap- Drew

Generic consumers make the application widely used but the small screen could be a problem in navigation. The icons at the bottom of the image are handy and great for easy access to tools. Although i think there isn’t a need for a rotate button if you can just tilt the phone to rotate the image. A send button should be included in the icons too.

Poker- Russell

There is room and game monitoring but i don’t think it will be that succesful, games should be recorded incase a report is brought up about a certain game. Room stats could be added when scrolling. It would be good if groups could book or buy a certain room for their private use which would be available tot ehmm all the time.

 Scriible- Nathan

Allows for networking now which is great for people to find their works and their friends works. An ability to save images before they’re drawn over should make it more fun and less annoying when someone does drw over their stuff. Maybe people can only draw over other works 10 seconds after the artist has drawn preserving their works for a time.

My beat- Kristina

I like it because it is such an abstract and arty idea. Kinda reminds me of windows media player except now the visuals create what song is to be played and in what order your playlist is arranged. Kinda like a cool emotional diary.

Surprise Me- George

All about trying something new, which is quite a popular idea since now there are some many lists of “things to do before you die” and stuff. But to avoid legality issues maybe business should register with the service much liek the yellow pages. This way when bad reviews are written they can’t complain. Good thing is they promote their business as well.

Presentation2 part 1

Ok so we just had presentations and everyone so far has got pretty solid ideas which the’ve devloped. Some have changed more than others such as Jeerish’s idea. Her idea has changed from the language teacher to an international tour guide on your iphone.

Ok so below is just some things i picked up from the presentations.

Eye spy- Adam

He has a really rreally good prototype which make gives a fairly good idea of his idea, but appranently the prototype has skewed his users views on his application.

And since the iphone doesn’t have such a big screen it would be hard to pick up small details in images and possibly even type.

Farm Hand- Georgina

New to her idea is the alternative to having to program sensors as they would be available pre programmed. A virtual consultant whoch gives instant easy access to professional advice.

Uses aspects of the efarming project which is used on a laptop. The next step in her project is to intergrate GPS and present it to her users for feedback.

As for the question about cost. I think she could introduce the idea of how the government could provide subsidies for the use of the technology as the farming industry is essential to Australian society. So they could be willing to help upgrade processes for more effective farming and crop production. This would lessen the initial blow of the cost.

WOWGO -Andrew

Using world of warcraft as social networking app. by allowing users to see where each other is located on a map. Aiming the app at high level players. I think that the ability to customize the interface is essential in making it effective and easy to use. It allows for advanced and beginner palyers to get familiar with the new game interface.

Sky Assault-Patrick

Has a good game layout which users will find easy to use and figure out.

Footprint- Jeerish

New site and idea. There is a similar product which is also a tour guide however it’s kind of like a visor you have to wear and sensors in you shoes and a a processor in a backpack. All together the processor picks up signals in the areas and the sensors in the shoes pick up steps and your location. Pretty much what happens is when you enter a certain area “hot zone” the cisor you are weazring displays a picture ontop of what you see. So if you see an old church the visor overlays it with images of what it used to look like in sxays the 1800’s it also places people arpund the image to show you daily life of the time. This is what i thought of when Jeerish presented her idea.

Photosnap – Beth

I like the idea of levels as it will make it addicitve. I though about how people are obsessed with the facebook application of vampires and werewolves where you keep increasing you level.

Ok that it is all. And no George you can’t steal my notes.

Loving the blog.

Many apolagies for my last rant, but indeed blogging is a great way to vent rage. I mean i would never have used that many expletives in real life so this makes me feel a little better. Just checked out the presentation list and yay! i am second last! leaving the wacky to the end how interesting. But yeh i am going to spend this week fixing my site with help form Kevin. Thankyou very much kevin for putting up with my crazy rants and for helping my with fixing my code. Oh yeh, Drew the prototypes are on my Prototypes page you click the play buttons(hopefully that works at least).

But i have some very interesting plans for my final website, but it involves having to go over all Justins lectures caus what i want to do is very much so based on the stuff he taught us but i somehow managed to half sleep through. So silly of me. But yeah hopefully if all works out it will be brilliant.

OFFICIALLY ANNOYED!!!!

OMFG! I F#@kn HATE GOD DAMN WEBSITES!!!! I FEEL LIKE KILLING MYSELF! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BLOODY HELL HOW CAN ANYONE LIVE AS A WEB DESIGNER!

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

As you might now website 2 was due today and i am so freaking annoyed! my site sucks, all the changes that i needed to make didn’t validate. But not only that. some stuff that works in IE doesn’t work in firefox. This annoys me because i only realised 5 minutes before 12 and then bloody ftp transfer thing dies on me! So you know what i amnot bloody happy at all! i don’t think i have been this annoyed since…actually i’ve never been this bloody annoyed. I definitely have gotten a real reality check though, maybe i shouldn’t be doing this course because code is stupid!

If only this semester was like last semester, it would be so much easier and more fun. And fyi, the iphone is just a materialistic object which will eventually create massive landfills around the earth. Indeed i am feeling very bitter about this. But on to  the next hell project, oh wait i mean next minisite.

I am so dead on the inside right now. Damn you website! i will have my revenge, you and an ur blinking buttons and non working things.

But good side is i at least uploaded all y info, hopefully that will get me some marks.

Oh yeh on another note

I have an uploaded prototype. I am pretty proud of it even though it’s pretty crappy flash.  It’s only one prototype though so i have 2 more to make.

The first prototype just briefly describes what happens when you use the wave to text part of the application. So right now i am working on how each wave crest and troph (rise and fall of the wave) depending in height and depth triggers different sounds and notes.

Once recorded you have the option of mixing it around or keeping it the same. Ultimately you just use is as a ringtone or as something cool to send to your friends. It’s a fairly experimental thing as you can think anything and do anything.

Okie dokes well i’m outta here!

Human Computer

Kristina has given me an idea that the iphone could work in conjunction with a hard drive which is kept on the user turning them into a sort of human computer. She suggests that this could be an upgrade to my idea later on in development.

So what you have on your iphone can be loaded straight onto the hard drive for storage.

OK well i will blog about this more later when i can go through stuff and figure out what to do.

AND my question to you kaz is…”where’s wally?”

prototyping

So after longs hours of contemplation and thoughts of “but i can;t prototype something that’s not real and brainwaves are immeasurable without the real technology!” i realised why should i be protyping the iphone software, i should prototype user interaction. Therefore i should be protyping the headset as well. ths is where good ole low fidelity prototyping comes in. I;m going to create a make shift headset and get users to wear it whilst they play computer games, text msging on normal phones and pretty much wear it during any activity that i propose the “real” thing could do.

The aim of this is to determine how long someone will put up with wearing it and when will they bother to do so, also how comfortable are they wearing it in public. . By using it, it would indicate it to be useful and would interfere with everday activities. However the failure to use it or to take it off alot would indicate a need for changes to the headset e.g shape, size etc.

Once that physicality part is done i will then prototype the software via storyboard, this allows for users to grasp the concept more easily and have a turn in interacting. So i’d have cards saying things like “so if you were concentrating well this would happen, but if you weren’t somethng else would happen”. The storyboarding has been made easy since i found videos detailing the actual controls and effects. This protyping idea will determine how user friendly the idea is and indicate necessary changes and improvements.

So now i know how to prototype, i;ll now apply this. Oh and of course update much very neglected website.

poor neglected blog

yes, i know i have neglected blogging for a while, so this semester break will be sort of a catchup. The reason i haven’t blogged is due to my maths studies. They are not fun i tell you. But yeh i am starting to build up my second minisite which ultimately builds of my first but probably with much better features.

I’m thinking of using a lightbox to launch videos and images. But so far as it comes to the whole results from prototyping i really don’t have results. If anyone reading this knows how i could potentially prototype this it would be great. So this week i;ll be spending my break thinking about prototyping.

But right now i found another video about brainwave technology and how it is used in games. So enjoy. Absorb. learn.

i have faith in my idea now!

check out this video! it has out more faith into my idea really

and wow half life makes a return hahahaha

I finally made some progess with user evaluation and results which is good. I manged to ask various potential users some questions and i got some great results which i have summarised in my minisite.

updates galore!

i know i haven’t blogged much, but i have been extremely busy with other course assignments. So basically what i have done since last time is, created a minisite which is different to my normal student homepage.

my pages are no longer “tentatively” validated but “validated” completely :D

And i have once again changed my idea but after getting feedback broadened the user group and created more uses for the application. Still unsure about how exactly i will test some things as it’s pretty unlike anything before which makes it difficult.

but tomorrow i just have to upload all my new content about the idea and then create a quick prototype sorta describing the pricesses involved.
